Ambassador Dr. Xiao Jianguo Welcomed Timor-Leste Diplomats' Delegation Back From China

On 2nd July, 2019, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Xiao Jianguo held an afternoon tea gathering at the Chinese Embassy for the Timor-Leste diplomats’ delegation which has come back from a successful visit to China. Mr. Jose Turquel, head of the delegation and Senior Advisor of Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Timor-Leste, attended with all other delegation members. Mr. Lei Zhen, Political Counselor and representatives of young diplomats of the Chinese Embassy participated in the activity.

H.E. Ambassador Dr. Xiao congratulated the Timor-Leste diplomats’ delegation on their successful visit to China, and said that it was the first time that the Chinese Embassy has organized a Timorese diplomat delegation to China, which is of great significance to enhance mutual understanding between the diplomatic departments of the two countries and to strengthen exchanges between the Chinese Embassy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Timor-Leste. At present, relations between China and Timor-Leste enjoy a sound momentum of development and the Belt and Road cooperation is making steady progress. China is willing to enhance exchanges and cooperation with all sectors of Timor-Leste including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, deepen cooperation in various fields, and promote greater development of bilateral relations.

On behalf of the delegation, Mr. Turquel thanked the Chinese Embassy for organizing this visit to China, lauded China’s achievements and spoke highly of China’s development path and ideas. He admitted that the trip to China has left a deep impression on the Timorese diplomats and provided them with a great opportunity to learn and feel. The experiences of China's development are worth learning. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation is willing to maintain close cooperation with the Chinese Embassy.

The Timorese diplomats’ delegation shared their experiences and feelings of visiting China. The two sides had in-depth exchanges on topics of mutual interests in a friendly and warm way.

9 Timorese diplomats attended the 1st Discover China Tour, which visited Beijing, Shenzhen, Hong Kong and Zhuhai from 23 to 29 June. Ms. Shen Minjuan, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Asian Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China and Mr. Zhong Jiajun, Deputy Director-General of the Foreign Affairs Office of Shenzhen Municipal government met separately with the delegation. The delegation also had academic exchanges with Peking University, visited well-known Chinese enterprises such as China Railway Group, China Merchants Group, Tencent, Hytera, and experienced the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge and High-Speed Railway.
