Hunan Province of China and Manatuto District of Timor-Leste Signed a Sister City Agreement

On the afternoon of April 26, 2019, Wu Lan, Deputy Party Secretary of Hunan Province in China, met with Abílio José Caetano, Acting Minister of State Administration of Timor-Leste in Changsha. The two sides signed an agreement to establish friendship provinces between Hunan Province and Manatuto District.

Wu said that Timor-Leste is an important link of the Belt and Road Initiative(BRI). China and Timor-Leste enjoy a long-lasting traditional friendship. With the continuous development of friendly cooperation between the two countries, Hunan and Timor-Leste's exchanges and cooperation have become more frequent and closer. At present, Hunan is deeply implementing the strategy of "innovation-oriented development and the rise via opening-up", in order to accelerate the integration into the BRI construction, and create a highland of innovation and openness in China inland. We sincerely hope this visit is an opportunity to strengthen personnel exchanges, deepen communication and cooperation in infrastructure construction, economy, trade, agriculture, tourism between two countries, and promote the all-round and multi-field cooperation to a higher level.

Abílio said that the two countries enjoy extensive and fruitful cooperation. We look forward to establishing friendship provinces with Hunan, in order to further consolidate the basis for cooperation between the two sides, through refining cooperation measures and expanding cooperation areas, deepening exchanges and cooperation to benefit the two peoples in vast fields such as economy, trade, agriculture, fisheries, science and technology, people-to-people and cultural exchanges, human resources development, etc.
