On April 17, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Xiao Jianguo met with the representatives of Timor-Leste media at the Embassy. The CEOs, Director Generals and Editors-in-Chief from the RTTL TV, GMN TV, Timor Post, STL and Independent were present.

Ambassador Xiao briefed on the latest development of China and China-Timor-Leste relations, and answered questions from the media. He highlighted the concepts, models and processes about China's development and the achievements of the Belt and Road Initiative. He announced that Former President, Former Prime Minister and Chief Negotiator for Maritime and Boundary affairs of Timor-Leste, H.E. Mr. Xanana Gusmao will lead the Timorese delegation to attend the upcoming 2nd Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation (BRF) held in Beijing for the second time on April 25-27, 2019. Ambassador Xiao spoke highly of important role played by the media of Timor-Leste in promoting the China-Timor-Leste relations and people-to-people exchanges. He emphasized that the Chinese Embassy is willing to strengthen the communications and exchanges with the media and support media’s coverage related to China in an objective, fair and comprehensive way.

The media present thanked Ambassador Xiao for kind invitation and informative briefing. They believed that this meeting would work with a great result, and hoped to maintain regular contacts with the Embassy in the future, and to contribute to objective coverage related to China and China-Timor-Leste relations. They agreed to follow the 2nd BRF and cover the event properly.
